Children In Need 2021

Children In Need is all about changing the lives of young people across the UK who are the most in need.
Poverty, disability, illness, trauma, mental health, child sexual exploitation, hunger...these are just some of the issues that local charities and projects, funded by Children In Need, tackle.

I know, so many people are still struggling with the effects of Covid. Whether you Donate or Raise Awareness, it's so important to keep these issues at the forefront. The BBC have been at it already, entertaining us to raise money and I wanted to highlight two amazing fundraisers.

BBC Breakfast's Drumathon

BBC Weather presenter, Owain Wyn Evans did a challenge in which he drummed for 24 hours. Joined by many familiar faces over the 24 hours, it was amazing to watch. Why drumming? well Professor Marcus Smith from the University of Chichester and colleagues at the Clem Burke Drumming Project explain the significant impact of drumming on the brain, body and mood. It's been an amazing tool to help children with autism, special needs and other disabilities. It's also used as a form of mental health therapy. So far, Owain has raised an over £3 million and it's still rising!

The Great Rickshaw Relay Challenge 2021

Back for it's 11th year, the Rickshaw challenge, fronted by presenter Matt Baker, took on 5 chapters where each rider took a leg of the relay and travelled through their hometowns, visiting places that held significance to them. We learnt so much about the riders and you can see their stories on the BBC Children In Need YouTube page or watch on BBC iPlayer.
The Rickshaw Challenge has raised over £41 million since 2011 and it's still building.
