Another two pumpkins but three characters this year. I really wanted to do Corpse Bride as I watched it a lot when it was on Netflix. I managed to get Victor and Emily on the one pumpkin and found the smaller one was brilliant for Maggot.

I'm so pleased with how they turned out. It took three hours to carve them! I forget year on year how long they can take to do. How have you decorated your pumpkins this year?

With Covid and Brexit, it's safe to say that getting things last minute is not the way to go. With my health giving me brain fog, it was a miracle the local Tesco had sweets in stock!
This year I decided not to do trick or treater bags and opt to have prepackaged sweets in a bowl outside, but I still wanted to put these together for some of the children in the family.

The Haul

The character bags were left over from a Baker Ross order a few years ago. They are not available at the moment but the company have plain coloured ones and even Christmas ones, if you were thinking ahead. The temporary tattoos I also ordered from Baker Ross and they are currently available. I found there wasn't as much Halloween stock this year and I wonder if it was because of covid. Did businesses want to use up what they had left over from 2020? Did they decide not to take the gamble in case of lockdown again? I'm hoping next year we will be in a better position with the pandemic and be able to do more to celebrate.

The Sweet Bags

I was able to fit the temporary tattoos, 3 small bags, a few chews and a lolly. With the size of these, I would say they are better for loose sweets and smaller treat bags, but the colours and designs are just perfect. I'm so happy with how these turned out!

Every year, I do sweet bags for some of the children in my family and I do trick or treater bags for the trick or treaters but with covid I was unsure what to do this year. I decided ultimately, that even though I do not have covid, I am a vulnerable person and have an upcoming hospital appointment I cannot afford to miss. It would be best to just buy prepackaged sweets and leave them in a bowl outside.
However, I wanted to re-share the different treat bags and sweet treats I've done over the years in case you are having a family / friends get together or party. Just click on the name above each picture to take you to the post.

How is it different to last years?

This is brand new for 2021 and as said above an online exclusive. I love the contrast in design to the 25 day beauty calendar, by keeping the sparkles but going for a bright white. There are some similar products to the 25 days advent, but some are bigger in size.

Is it worth the price?

Priced at £120.00 this comes with a huge £385.00 worth. I love this advent calendar from No7. It's got the perfect skincare to makeup balance and comes with a foundation voucher instead of a concealer one like the 25 days of beauty does. This is not only worth the price but out of the drugstore advent calendars, this is the top contender. It is just a shame it is online only. As always, with it being over £100.00 have a read through the contents just to make sure you would use every product.

*Highlighted products are repeats from last years Advent Calendar*

How is it different to last years?

Keeping the same flip open structure, the No7 advent has the same colour scheme of black with sparkles but the design is different by featuring the logo big across the front. This has 12 repeated products which is common for No7. The repeats are mainly makeup and basic skin care items.

Is it worth the price?

Priced at £47.00 it is £2.00 more, but it was an amazing £184.00 worth, £12.00 more than last year! I 100% recommend this advent calendar. Not only is it worth the money, you have everything here, including tools, to create your look and nurture your skin. I really like the voucher for the concealer too. Most advent's do not include a skin colour item because everyone is different, but having the option is brilliant to see. The only thing I'd change is having the voucher as day one so when you purchase the calendar, you can cash in the voucher whilst there and saves you having to go back into store.

How is it different to last years?

This is another, brand new and exclusive to the Clarins website advent calendar. When I heard Clarins had expanded the number of calendars this year this is what I expected. I'm not crazy that the structure, design and colour scheme is so similar to the others on sale, but you can distinguish it by the door opening being like a book rather than a double door.

Is it worth the price?

At £135.00 with a £259.00 worth, this is 100% worth the money. Although some items are repeats to previous years 12 day calendar, to a new buyer it wouldn't matter and to a repeat buyer they have at least 12 new products to play with. As always, advents of this price should be checked out first and ensure all the products would be used and not go to waste.

- Total Eye Lift, 7ml.

- Instant Smooth Perfecting Touch, 4ml.
- SOS Primer in Universal Light, 10ml.
- Wonder Perfect Mascara 4D in Perfect Black, 3ml.
- Joli Blush in Cheeky Pink, 1.6g.

How is it different to last years?

This is brand new for 2021 and being entirely honest (as always) I am completely confused as to why this advent was produced. A "Skin Care Essentials" advent that has four makeup items and three items you can find in the beauty advent calendar. With it being named Skin Essentials I thought we'd at least see a serum, maybe even an SPF. This also has the same colour scheme and design as the beauty advent calendar, I wouldn't be surprised if someone picked up one thinking it was the other. I'm utterly confused.

Is it worth the price?

At £65.00 with a £120.00 plus worth this for me is not worth the money. I think having an advent calendar so close in style to one already on the market, with an advertisement of skincare and having makeup items included is all too confusing and comes across as a commercial push. If Clarins were to do this again next year, then have to separate them as makeup and skincare.

*Highlighted products are repeats from last years Advent Calendar*

How is it different to last years?

A couple of new products this year from the brands energizing range, but the rest are repeats. This has the same box structure and colour palette of last year and same design as the women's 12 day beauty advent of this years. It would be nice to see them change it up.

Is it worth the price?

Priced at £65.00 it comes with a £121.00 worth. Men's skincare advent calendars are beginning to become more popular, but to me, Clarins will always be one of the original brands to offer a men's version. This is worth the money, it's a nice little saving but again, I can understand those who do not want an advent calendar with such a high percentage of repeated products. If you are one of those people, Clarins do have some of the best seasonal gifting ranges.

Clarins Women's 12 Day Beauty Advent Calendar - £65.00

Description & Contents

"Our Women's 12 Day Beauty Advent Calendar is back and bursting with Clarins classics. 12 days of joy including a full size Supra Volume Mascara and Intense Natural Lip Perfector and 10 travel-size treats, from skincare to make-up must-haves."

- Supra Volume Mascara in Intense Black, 8ml.
- Intense Natural Lip Perfector in Rose Bud, 12ml.
- Instant Eye Make-Up Remover, 30ml.
- Cleansing Micellar Water, 50ml.
- Hydrating Gentle Foaming Cleanser, 30ml.
- Beauty Flash Balm, 30ml.
- Comfort Scrub, 15ml.
- SOS Hydra Refreshing Hydration Mask, 15ml.
- Lip Comfort Oil in Honey, 2.8ml.
- Joli Rouge in Soft Berry, 1.5g.
- SOS Primer in Universal Light, 10ml.
- Crayon Kohl in Carbon Black, 0.4ml.
*Highlighted products are repeats from last years Advent Calendar*

How is it different to last years?

With the same draw system structure and colour scheme, the design is a little more festive this year whilst staying on brand. They have also decreased the number of repeats from 12 to 7. In my opinion, it's a step in the right direction and surprising to see as the brand have released two new advent calendars this year.

Is it worth the price?

Priced at £65.00 it is £5.00 more in price and the worth has gone down to £123.00 rather than the £125.00 we've seen the past few years. However, the products they have swapped out include more makeup items and two full sized products at that, so the worth has gone down as their skincare value is higher but the price increase is from the full sized products. Again, this is an advent that isn't the best for repeat buyers if they want something new but for those as an introduction to Clarins, it is a great saving. The brand have brought out two new advents this year for women, they'd be worth checking out as well before deciding.

Pumpkin is very good for the skin.
Pumpkin Enzymes contain Vitamin A and Vitamin C as well as alpha hydroxyl acids (AHA) which removes the top level of dead skin. Meaning it helps both soften and soothe dry, cracked skin whilst boosting collagen production. Although most AHA's will do that for your skin, pumpkin enzymes are especially gentle, making it perfect for most skin types.
With winter coming, it's important to change up your skin care routine to cater to the colder and harsher weather. Here are three skincare products that you can easily incorporate into your routine to give your skin the best over the next few months.

Elemis Superfood AHA Glow Cleansing Butter

This is a apply to dry skin cleanser and perfect to use with a flannel to give you that extra level of exfoliation. Most cleansing butters are made to break down makeup, oils and anything you've carried on your face that day but this one in particular is almost silk like in texture that you don't realise how little you need. To compare to the body shop camomile butter, that has a soft chapstick consistency in the tin because it's been packed. So you can mistakenly use too much, whereas with this one by Elemis, you can see how soft the texture is and need to apply it, almost like a serum in amount. At £30.00 a go, it is on the higher end budget wise but as a morning cleanser, giving you that extra glow and hydration to start the day is such a bonus.

Peter Thomas Roth Pumpkin Enzyme Mask

Peter Thomas Roth is one of the leading skincare brands in the USA and I've seen more people incorporate their products into their day to day skincare routines and others treat the brand as their skincare treat. For me, at £50.00 a tub, Peter Thomas Roth is out the budget and something I get as a treat or as a gift.
This mask is one of my favourites to use out of all masks on the market but it is one to use sparingly. It is meant to be applied as a thin layer, massaged into the skin with wet fingertips and left for 3-7 minutes dependant on how sensitive your skin is. I leave it on for 4-5 minutes and I am a little red after use but that calms quickly. You can use this 1 to 2 times a week but I use it once every 10 days. I cannot stress that it is extremely active and I've seen many apply a thick layer, feel tingly or aggravated and say it doesn't work. Of course, it won't work for everyone but I have had such amazing results from this and know others who have too. It's given me the smoothest skin and I've found my makeup glides on effortlessly after use.  I would say, this isn't a product for those who are beginners into skincare.

Kate Somerville Exfolikate Glow Moisturiser

This product is hailed as Kates three Ps for perfect skin; pineapple, pumpkin and papaya enzymes.
As a daily product, this moisturiser is gentle and works fast, I saw results in 4 days! For me, it helped with dullness, dryness and texture and I have seen it help those with uneven skin tone. This is very pricey, I won't sugar coat it. It's £58.00 and I will say this is a product that, if you have tried all the drug store moisturisers and you were going to pay out for something higher end, start with this. Chances are you will hit the nail on the head first time. There is a warning with this product, it will increase your skins sensitivity to the sun and may increase the possibility of sun burn. Winter sun is no joke, I preferred to use this at PM only after using am and pm for a week but only because I am already at risk of sunburn from medications and didn't want to add to that.

It's important to say, you don't need to be using all three of these products every day. Overloading your skin with AHAs is counter productive and can increase sensitivity. These are just some ideas if you feel like your skin is dull, dry and you don't know where to start.

How is it different to last years?

This has no repeated products! I repeat, no repeats!
Sticking to a bright colour scheme, the box structure is the same chest of draw style, making it perfect to reuse. I was hoping to see something similar in design to their 2019 advent with the snowflakes, just something a little more festive.

Is it worth the price?

This has gone up in price by £9.00, but at £159.00 this advent has a whopping over £600 worth! That's a huge increase compared to their £376.00 worth last year and it's only cost you £9.00 more. I always say, check the contents and make sure you get full use before you spend so much money, but this advent is one of the most popular and one that is reviewed the best amongst the beauty community.

Saturday, 9 October 2021
I published a post like this back in 2018 and it was the most read Halloween post that year. Unfortunately in 2019 I was unwell and with COVID-19 locking down 2020, it's effects are still carrying on a small level of uncertainty in 2021.
So, whether you are trick or treating, throwing / going to a Halloween party or just having a small gathering, looking at the supermarkets for Halloween is one of the best routes to go.
Supermarkets have everything from confectionary to costumes and I find they tend to be the best first option where you can buy everything in one place. I've again, compiled three categories; best for costumes, best for Halloween inspired clothing and best for party decor and treats. I've assigned each category to a different supermarket and when choosing I considered prices, locations and stock levels.

For Halloween Costumes - Sainsburys

Sainsburys is again, the best place. The brand have a partnership with Argos so from childrens to adults, you have the option of affordable and licenced costumes.
As you can see from the image above, it's very simple costuming and doesn't break the bank. The most expensive I found was a licenced costume at £35.00 that came with accessories too. I like you have the option to go traditional Halloween characters or have a film inspired outfit like the Jack Skellington onesie. I also found Sainsburys (in their own line) were the most size inclusive.

For Halloween Inspired Clothing - ASDA

It's no surprise. I feel ASDA always have the best range of festive and holiday clothing. This year, they've thought even more out the bag.
With family and friend matching sweatshirts and PJS and even adding film and TV licenced items, they've not gone overboard. There's something for everyone in both a subtle pattern or going all out. I love the idea of matching Halloween pjs for a movie night.

For Decor & Treats - Ocado

With the current stocking issues at the supermarkets, I wasn't surprised to find it difficult in choosing who would best fit this category. I am not usually an Ocado shopper but through the pandemic and even now, they've been smashing. Cannot praise them enough. Ocado have partnered with Marks & Spencer (M&S) so the decor part of this category is Ocado but the treat side is M&S.
I feel if you are going to have a party, gathering or movies night, having M&S's classic characters in the treats gives you that childhood nostalgia. I also love that they've not completely Americanised the food but experimented, like with this shock corn I am dying to try! The decor range is basic but you can be themed to have it more towards children's cartoon style character, spooky or classic Halloween.

What are your plans for Halloween this year?

How is it different to last years?

This is another brand whose advent sells out quick! A very different box structure and colour scheme this year. A traditional "product in draws" approach with this psychedelic swirl pattern. It's not the most festive design they've done. With only 7 repeated products, it's on par with previous years, where primers and what I would call "basics" are included.

Is it worth the price?

This has increased by £10.00 to £135.00 but the worth has increased by £40.00 to £340.00! With it still being a high price for an advent calendar, always double check you'd get use of all the products. However, this is a makeup advent that has the most diversity with a limitation of products. For example, there are 5 eyeshadow products but they come in two formulations. Same situation with the lip products, it's not just the exact same item in different colours. That gives you more to play with and you can create both subtle and bolder looks. I recommend it.

How is it different last years?

This has no repeated products! That's amazing for ASOS who usually have one or two. You will see the same brands but to have an advent with no repeats is a rare find. I like that this too has the reusable tote bag as an extra gift as well as the packaging being 100% recyclable.

Is it worth the price?

Priced the same at £75.00 you are receiving much more in contents to last year as they've increased the number of full sized products from 13 to 15! I 100% recommend this advent towards the younger age market, 18-30. Not saying it isn't one that would work for any age, I just find the contents are so diverse that for that beginner level, someone getting into the beauty community would get more benefit from this.
