Well that's it for Calendar Countdown this year! There were so many advent calendars that I didn't get a chance to review as they sold out so quickly!
I feel Covid-19 has not only affected how people have shopped this year, but the majority of retailers may have decreased their numbers or been unable to match them to the previous years.
Here's to hoping 2021 will not only be a better year overall but give us even more advent calendars to choose from.

If you'd like to look at all the posts I've done so far this year; Click Here.

The Playmobil Back To The Future Advent Calendar is one of many released by the brand. Unfortunately this is the only one I could determine was new for 2020, which is why it is the only one reviewed. Priced at £29.99 you get an array of characters and accessories.

Contents

Features iconic characters in their 1955 and 1985 outfits, including Marty Mcfly, Doc, Biff, and Jennifer. Many details are included to help recreate iconic scenes from the cult film. Also complete with a diorama of the town hall with the clock tower of Hill Valley. A bonus for real fans: includes a postcard with bobble effect!

How is it different to last years?

This is a brand new collaboration for Playmobil. In all honesty, I was surprised to see such a throwback cult favourite for one of their advent calendars. Although the packaging isn't festive, it reflects the films and I love how (outside their logo and warning label) the writing is in the Back To The Future font.

Is it worth the price?

Priced at £29.99 it is 100% completely worth the price. This is a little more than the other advents the brand has, but this includes many more pieces and a more detailed diorama. I think this is perfect for kids and big kids alike.

I'd love to know what you think. You can find me on FacebookTwitter & Instagram, use the hashtag #CalendarCountdown or comment below.

The Tinc Advent Calendar is a 24 day calendar with toys and stationary pieces. Priced at £25.00 there are offers to get money off when buying multiples.

Contents

How is it different to last years?

In a very similar fashion to the Smiggle Advent, there will be products that are the same type but in a different design. Meaning no repeats of the exact same item but the contents are similar. Keeping the tray style box with products in individual boxes, this has a gorgeous Christmas design.

Is it worth the price?

Priced at £25.00 but this is on a buy 2 save £5, buy 3 save £7.50 or buy 4 save £10.00 offer. I think in comparison to other advents on the market this is worth the money. This has better diversity in design, making it more universal. I also like that they include a colouring puzzle on the underside of each advent box. The only thing I would change, is taking the single coloured highlighters out as you already have the mini set. I know most would like a bigger highlighter but it'll mean another door for another type of item.

The Smiggle Advent Calendar is back with 25 days of stationery items. Priced at £28.00 it's on offer for £25.00.

Contents

1 x Rainbow Pen
1 x Pick Me Maze Pen
1 x Mini Paint Set
1 x Sharpener
1 x Mini Ruler
1 x Keyring
1 x Slap Band
1 x Scented Sticker Pack
1 x Spy Pen
1 x Snake Puzzle
1 x Mini Pencil Pack
1 x Glitter Glue
1 x Grey Lead Pencil
1 x Rainbow Pencil
1 x Lanyard
1 x Bag Tag
1 x Character Paper Clip
1 x Kaleidoscope
1 x Mini Note Pad
1 x Pencil Case
2 x Textas
2 x Erasers
5 x Mini Coloured Markers

How is it different to last years?

I LOVED last years snow globe design, the colour scheme and winter wonderland vibe it gave was perfect. This is very traditional but very similar to what Smiggle has done before. In terms of repeats, the product type can be the same but the designs are different. Some even come as a product that's more than one thing.

Is it worth the price?

Priced at £28.00 it's now £25.00 on their Black Friday offer. I do feel this isn't worth the money. I feel that the company has many seasonal designed items they could of included, they could of had a higher worth price and maybe featured a wow item like a water bottle or one of their larger pencil cases.

I'd love to know what you think. You can find me on FacebookTwitter & Instagram, use the hashtag #CalendarCountdown or comment below.

The Academy Of Colour have two advent calendars this year! This nails one features 16 shades and accessories. Priced at £40.00 it's now on sale for £24.00.

Contents

16 x Nail Polish 6ml
1 x Top Coat 6ml
1 x French Polish 6ml
2 x Nail Glitter
1 x Nail File
1 x Nail Clippers
1 x Toe Separator
1 x Nail Gems
1 x Nail Scissors

How is it different to last years?

Now, I haven't seen last years nail advent contents so it's the same situation as the makeup one. The nail varnish items will be the same / similar but the colours could be different and the accessories, I can hazard a guess they'd be the same as they always are. Carrying on the same colour palette as the makeup advent, it has this cylinder style box that I think looks brilliant.

Is it worth the price?

At £40.00 I would have said no, as I feel there are better nail care advents that are not that much more expensive. At the £24.00 sale price I'd say this would be a great accompaniment to the makeup advent for those in that pre and early teen age group.

The Academy Of Colour 2020 Makeup Advent Calendar is an exclusive with Debenhams. With an original price of £30.00, it's currently on sale for £18.00.

Contents

2 x Trio Eyeshadow Palettes
2 x Blusher
3 x Lip Gloss 8ml
3 x Lipstick
2 x Loose Metallic Pigments
2 x Nail Polish
1 x Mascara
2 x Glitter
2 x Eyeliner
2 x Lip Cream
1 x Nail File
1 x Brush
1 x Blending Sponge

How is it different to last years?

The difficult thing about the information given with this calendar, is that it doesn't tell you what the colours are. I know there are repeated items in terms of the product but it could be an entirely different colour. I feel this is an advent more for pre and early teens, so the colours may not be as relevant to that age. The design is very festive and I like the lighter colour palette.

Is it worth the price?

Was £30.00 now £18.00 this is a steal. For as little as a pound a day a product, I can see this being a popular calendar as an introduction to makeup. I don't see it being as popular for ages 13+. I think the products are a little child-like in design for them, but it would accompany a styling head well as they seem to come with little accessories these days.

*Highlighted products are repeats from last years Advent Calendar*

How is it different the last years?

With only 1 repeated nail polish shade and 3 repeated nail care products, this is a lot better than last years. I feel the colour range is more diverse and the design, although unusual is a lot more on brand. Last years blue snowflake design looked very washed out whereas this shop and chimney design is simple and bold.

Is it worth the price?

As said, this has already sold out on the Essie website, but is still available for £54.46 on Amazon. That's a much better price than the original £99.00 price tag. When at its original price I would of said that I personally didn't feel it was worth the money. More so because like most brands they have a lovely gifting range. But, at Amazon's price, you are getting a brilliant saving that's too good to pass if you are a Essie lover or into nail care. An Essie Nail Varnish is priced at £7.99 so you already get over what you've spent on the full sized products alone.

How is it different to last years?

Last year, OPI had a Hello Kitty Themed advent calendar. This year they've gone full on Christmas party, which is a shame as covid will make those very different this year. However, with only 5 repeated shades this has a very autumnal / winter shade range that's perfect to add to your collection.

Is it worth the price?

Was £65.90, now £46.90 this is 100% worth the money. At around £3 a shade, you are getting £72.00 worth of products, which is a tidy little saving. Out of all the Nail advent calendars on the market OPI is always my favourite because they always feature those deep festive colours.

Dark Matter
Moondust
Lucky 7

Violet Haze
Top Coat
Base Coat

How is it different to last years?

There may be no repeats in this advent calendar! Last year, Ciate had 6 shades that were surprise shades and there were those who had different surprise shades to someone else. So you may get a calendar filled with new colours. I do prefer the colour scheme this year and as always they feature a London setting in the design.

Is it worth the price?

Priced at £59.00 it has an amazing £150.00 worth. For me Ciate is always worth the money, but there isn't always the diversity for everyone. This year I feel there is... it's just a shame there's no deep red. I think this is more a nail advent for late teens and twenties but also one that would make a perfect addition to those who are nail mad.

Nordic Berry Curl Mascara – Black 8ml
Intense Eye Marker Waterproof – Black 1.1ml
*Highlighted products are repeats from last years Advent Calendar*

How is it different to last years?

With 12 repeated products, Lumene doesn't have the broadest range that isn't targeted in their skincare line, but I did expect a lower number. I like the design, on brand with a festive feel. I do wish it featured a bigger logo or had a dark colour around it just to make it stand out more.

Is it worth the price?

Priced at £89.90 with a £240.00 worth it is definitely worth the money, but it would be a worth dependant upon whether you mind the number of repeats. For a first time buyer I think it's a high price for just trying the brand but worth it if you've say, had a gift set and wanted to expand more, as the variety is good. Lumene have had a very similar feel to their advent the past few years and I think it's time for a shake up.

With the world going through a pandemic, to hear Children In Need is still going ahead is brilliant. The past few weeks we've seen some amazing fundraising activities from Matt Baker and his team with The Rickshaw Challenge, DIY SOS with The Big Build and Joe Wicks with his 24 hour P.E. Challenge.

Everyone has had to adapt to new covid measures which have been ever changing. There is something fundamentally British about the Keep Calm & Carry On attitude people have had to raise money and awareness to benefit those who need help and support.

I know this has been a tough year for many and although this is an awareness post with ways you can donate, you can just raise awareness. It costs nothing. So please, repost, share and/or retweet from the official BBC Children In Need accounts which you can find below.

What Is Children In Need?

Children In Need is a British Charity that raises money for lots of projects over the UK to help disadvantaged children. Originally a radio broadcast, since 1980 the appeal has been on the BBC in a telethon format. Then in 1985 the telethon introduced Pudsey. Pudsey is the cuddly mascot for the charity and will often appear on the merchandise and be on stage / in the audience on the appeal night.

When Is Children In Need?

Tonight on BBC One at 7pm.

What Does The Money Do?

It goes to fund local charities and projects who help support children affected by poverty, disability, illness, distress and/or trauma. They also tackle issues such as mental health and wellbeing, violence, child sexual exploitation, hunger and social injustice.

How is it different to last years?

This is brand new for 2020, but they have gone with the same box design as the beauty calendar, with individual draws and a two door opening. I like the colour palette and print but do feel it could of been a little more neutral as it would be a great draw set to reuse.

Is it worth the price?

Priced at £199.00 it's one of those advents I'm on the fence about. Is it worth the money; unknown. Would you get full use of it; debatable. It's something completely out of left field for John Lewis & Partners and without knowing a worth price or having any comparitibility, it's difficult to give a full breakdown. I would say that it includes beautiful pieces, that are versatile and it covers a wide spectrum of metals and finishes.

*Highlighted products are repeats from last years Advent Calendar*

How is it different to last years?

Changing the box slightly to have a book opening, just without the doors, this has the same colour pattern with the palette reflecting black and grey rather than last year's black and brown. Molton Brown have done very well with having only 4 repeats, but you will find similar scents to last year, just in a different product form.

Is it worth the price?

Priced at £175.00 with a £259.00 worth, I again find that this isn't worth the money when the brand has such an amazing gifting range. I personally wouldn't pay £175.00 for an advent calendar if I was just trying out the brand and with the calendar being so diverse, I know I wouldn't get full use of it. Something to consider if you are thinking of buying this.

The Disney Store Animators Advent Calendar is back! Featuring figures and accessories, the Animators range is one of my personal favourites from Disney so it's no surprise this is one of my favourite toy advents.

Contents

24 piece set that includes: 13 Disney Animators' Collection figures, and 11 accessories

How is it different to last years?

As far as I remember, last year there wasn't an animators advent calendar. I remember there being some upset amongst fans and myself as it is such a popular range. Comparing to the 2018 one, which was the last to be released, the shape is the same and the design very similar, just with different characters and more colour.
There are some repeated characters and accessories in this, some with a slight twist but I count 4 repeats.

Is it worth the price?

This has upped by £5.00 to £30.00 but it is still 100% worth the money. A pack of 11 figures has gone up from £25.00 to £25.95 in the last few years so that plus the 2 extra figures and 11 accessories, you'll be getting this for a small saving with endless imaginative fun.

I'd love to know what you think. You can find me on FacebookTwitter & Instagram, use the hashtag #CalendarCountdown or comment below.

I believe, the Build-A-Bear Beary Merry Advent Calendar is brand new for 2020! Priced at £39.00 the brand currently have it on their early Black Friday offers at £35.70.

Contents

"CeleBEARate Christmas with your own Beary Merry Advent Calendar! Behind each of the windows on this festive gingerbread house is a fun surprise. As the big day gets closer, little ones can make lots of Christmas memories with the furry friends and outfits waiting behind the windows. This advent calendar include 6 mini plush friends and 19 mini clothing and accessory pieces."

How is it different to last years?

As I said I believe this is the first year for Build-A-Bear to have an advent calendar, at least in the UK and I really like the idea. There are those who love to collect stuffed animals and there are those who like the idea of starting to. I really like this idea for those with sensory processing or hyper activity as they can join in with a toy advent that is safer (no fear about the little collectibles ending up in someones mouth). The design is brilliant, it's festive on brand and easy to pierce open.

Is it worth the price?

At the RRP of £39.00 and the offer at £35.70 this is 100% worth the money. The mini plush's average at around £6.00 each so receiving 6 in the calendar comes out at £36.00, let alone the fact you'll get all the clothing and accessories for them too. I can't wait to see what the brand does next year.

I'd love to know what you think. You can find me on FacebookTwitter & Instagram, use the hashtag #CalendarCountdown or comment below.
