How is it different to last years?

Sleek are another brand who have been creating advents for a while but with high numbers of repeated products over the past couple of years. This year they have decreased from 75% of repeats to 33% which is a massive turn around. Although not overly festive, the design reflects more of a New Years theme which ties into the New Day, New Attitude motif they have. One flaw is the contents weights being on the front. It's great to include but it does disrupt the design.

Is it worth the price?

Increasing in price by £5 to £40.00, this is worth the money. I do always say that worth can be in terms of contents and not just price. This is where, I feel, Sleek hasn't been as strong but with the revamp of products in this advent people who brought it last year can get newer items and I think the variety is a lot better for first time buyers.

Would you pay £5.00 more for this advent? Do you think the contents are a lot better?

Calendar Countdown may have changed it's schedule but I'd still love to know your opinion. You can find me on FacebookTwitter & Instagram or use the hashtag #CalendarCountdown.

How is it different to last years?

This has had a huge shake up and it's so refreshing to see. Over the past few years Soap & Glory has had 70% or more of repeated products in their advent and as you can see highlighted above that has significantly decreased. The design and colour scheme is quintessential Soap & Glory but I do wish it would have a little more festive flair.

Is it worth the price?

This is £2.00 more than last year at £42.00 but is completely worth the money. I was hoping Soap & Glory would shake up the contents but I didn't imagine it would be this good. The decrease in repeats, the newer and exclusive products and the contents being larger you get excellent value for money. I 100% recommend this.

Do you think Soap & Glory did a better job this year? Do you think it's worth the price?

How is it different to last years?

Another collaboration Boots has done this year but with Macmillan Cancer Support. The design is very festive and I love how they interpreted the charity's statement green with the gold Christmas sparkle. If you decide this is the advent for you, they currently have this in a 3 for 2 offer with other advents and gifting.

Is it worth the price?

Priced at £40.00 this is a steal of an advent calendar. Worth over double in contents this is taking a more affordable approach. Containing well loved high street brands that Boots have been stocking for years, it has some great colour choices. I will say it is more skin and body care based but the products aren't overly targeting to specific skin issues. If you do have sensitive skin I'd have a read through the contents. This is another one of my favourite advents from Boots this year.

Are you impressed by this advent calendar? Do you think the £40.00 price point is a steal?

How is it different to last years?

Glamour has teamed up with Boots to bring this gorgeous Your Beauty, Your Rules advent calendar. This is such a simple yet effective design and although not overly festive it fits into the Christmas Calendar / Gifting sections you'd find in store.

Is it worth the price?

I am LOVING this advent calendar. With a £280 value claim, this is 100% worth the £85.00 price point. Comparatively, to the other calendars Boots offer, this is at a more premium price but you get premium products. This has one of the best product loots I've seen in a calendar this year. There is variety, great colour choices, well known, respected and loved brands and there is nothing overly targeted. Everyone needs a little more nourishment in the winter months but when it comes to skincare you do find advent contents can be for certain skin types or problems. This doesn't do that which limits waste.
I am so impressed by this calendar and I am hoping Glamour decided to collaborate with Boots again next year.

Would you buy this advent calendar? Do you think Glamour should team up with Boots again next year?

How is it different to last years

Clinique have decided to go with products in individual boxes, a popular choice for beauty advent calendars. I've said before that I understand the appeal but I feel like this can become a massive game of Jenga when pulling out odd boxes. The design is very on brand, striking and stands out well amongst their gifting range.
Disappointingly, this is another year where the advent has such a high number of repeated products....just look at what's highlighted above.

Is it worth the price?

Increasing the price for you to get 72% the same as last year isn't very appealing. For £85.00 this is not worth the money. Like I said last year, a 12 day advent with just their newest products would be beneficial for those who love Clinique. The consumer would hopefully get their money's worth and the brand would have an alternate product to boost repeat business.

Are you disappointed to see so many repeated products? Would you buy this advent?

  • Moisturising Shampoo 50ml

  • Silver Pocket Comb
  • Silver Mini Mirror
  • Session Towel
  • Barrette Pour Cheveux M Black

How is it different to last years?

This is the second year Balmain have brought out their unusual 10 day advent. Sporting a very similar design to last year with a more minimal and sophisticated edge this features 3 repeated products.
I am still confused as to why they haven't brought out a 12 day calendar or even a 24 day one with mini's. I feel like the 10 days is quirky and unusual but in my opinion, it's not a unique selling point, if anything it makes me compare against other brands where I may get more for my money.

Is it worth the price?

Increased by £10 to £150.00 this works out to be £15.00 an item. I still don't think this is overall worth the money. Balmain products are gorgeous but the mix of travel, deluxe and full sized items paired with the silver accessories makes me question where the consumer gets the value from this advent.

What do you think of a 10 day advent? Would this one by Balmain interest you?

How is it different to last years?

Another exclusive advent with Boots I am happy to see that they have significantly changed it up this year. With only 5 repeated products I much prefer this colour combination and design to last years advent. Although pink won't be for everybody, it's simplistic. I've seen many advent's have the house print they had last year so I'm glad they can stand out. The design with the individual boxes is still tricky. Great, because it's reusable but once you move one box it can become a game of jenga.

Is it worth the price?

Priced the same at £95.00 you do get your moneys worth with this advent. Comparing it to the 12 day calendar, this comes with deluxe sample sized products but has a lot more variety. This is for the person that wants to expand into skincare but still able to have a little fun with some makeup. This is on the pricier side of the advent calendar spectrum so I can understand that you may not see it's initial appeal. This is a think before you buy. Have a look at the contents, check ingredients and see if it would work for your skin.

Are you a fan of Lancome? Do you prefer an advent with try me sized or full sized products?

How is it different to last years?

New for this year, Lancome have decided to release a second, 12 day calendar, which I think may be exclusive to Selfridges as I cannot find it for purchase elsewhere as of yet. I love this design, although not fetive, it's striking and says this is a beauty advent calendar.

Is it worth the price?

At £95.00 this is the same price as the other advent they offer. That is really unusual to see as 12 and 24/25 day calendars would usually have a significant price gap. After pricing everything up I found you do get the price you pay in terms of contents for this advent. What you get in comparison to their 24 day one is more full sized products but less variety. This is what I would call an everything you'd need advent. You get the basics to nourish the skin and to create a lovely winter look. I would target this advent to someone who may have had last years 24 day one. If they really loved the brand but cannot budget for their products on a monthly basis this gives them a really nice treat and with more of the products being full sized they will last longer.

Are you surprised by a 12 day advent from Lancome? Do you prefer this over the 24 day one?

With Collection week starting on the 11th November. I thought I'd put this post up as soon as I could. If you feel you'd like to do this but don't have the time, check out the links below for a way to do it all online.

What It's All About

Operation Christmas Child is an initiative by Samaritan's Purse. The premise is to fill a shoebox with hygiene products, school supplies and small toys to send to children in less fortunate situations.
I've been filling shoeboxes for almost 10 years now and I do find it hard to obtain different pieces each time so you may find this post very similar to previous years. There is so much more to Operation Christmas Child than the simple explanation I wrote above so click here and it will take you to the website hosting all the information.

Where I Find My Pieces

Finding toys to fit into a shoebox can be difficult but the people at Toys For A Pound and Pound Toy are always so helpful when I email asking for dimensions. They are also very affordable and you can pick up a smaller haul of toys for the same price as buying one. I prefer to do a smaller haul as you don't know where the shoe boxes will go. Most do go to children's homes and schools and I like the idea of putting in toys that can be shared amongst the children. I always go to Tesco for the toiletries. They have a wide range of different multipacks which makes it easier buying for 6 shoeboxes. When it comes to school supplies, The Range & The Works are always my go to. I love that The Range have the 10 piece math sets. Even though the younger children won't use it for a few years, it'll come in handy. The Works also do multipack offers on stationery which is again great for packing multiple shoeboxes.

This Years Haul

(There were multiples of the items above but I couldn't fit it all in the photo).
For Toys; The Globe Soft Balls, Recorders, Cars, Plastic Car Mat, Table Tennis and Soft Toys.
For School Supplies; Notebook, Pencil Case, Pencils, Pens, Math Set (Which included sharpener, rubber and ruler) and a Water Bottle.
For Hygiene Products; Toothbrush, Flanel, Soap and Comb.

Getting Them All Packed Up

Once all packed up you can either put the £5 donation in to help shipping or you can pay it online and print a barcode. Once scanned and sent, Operation Christmas Child will send you an email in the new year letting you know where your box(es) went. For 3 years I've opted to know where my boxes have gone and it's not only nice to know but interesting to see how far they travel.

All Ready To Go

Here they are all ready to go. I always pack 6 shoe boxes. One for each gender and age category they have. If you are able to do one, I do know that every year they are short on shoe boxes for older girls and boys aged 10-14.

Previous Shoeboxes & Helpful Links

Here are the previous years I've blogged about Operation Christmas Child Boxes; 2015, 2016, 2017 & 2018. Hopefully this can give you an idea for some items.
With the deadline fast approaching I thought to share some useful links if you want to put one together or get some information for next year! There's even a link about how to pack and send a box online in a few easy clicks.
