The Big Picture // Activity

Today's post is going to be focusing on an idea which I have used and found very nostalgic. It's also very useful for babysitters and childminders. It's a very simple and inexpensive craft related activity you can keep coming back to.

Things You Will Need

  • A roll or two of paper.
  • Pens, Markers, Crayons...etc. Depending on the age of the child you can use paint).
  • Scissors
  • Adhesive
  • Paper shapes
  • Plain Sticker Labels & Decorative stickers
  • A Rubber band
  • Newspaper

How It Works

Always start by laying down newspaper to protect the surface you are working on. Roll out the paper and start drawing, painting, sticking...whatever the little one’s fancy.  This is a normal rainy-day activity but, in a way, to keep all of their art together. When they have finished (or it's dry) you can roll it up, secure with an elastic band and store away for another day.

Additional Suggestions

  • Use this as an opportunity for the child to document your days out and events. It will make a great memory item.
  • I've found this is great for winding down time so when the child(ren) say they don't want to stop their livelier play time, you can say something along the lines of "we have to draw this on our big picture".
  • I included plain labels so you can stick the name, date and age of the child on the back of or next to each image.
  • When you come to the end of the paper roll either tape or glue the beginning of another roll so it will carry on being endless!

As always, thanks for reading...
